Single versus multiple-effect evaporation on a common duty
Compare pressure levels, thermal budget and operating flexibility before comparing utility quantities.
Hold the product target constant
Use identical feed composition, feed temperature, final concentration, operating hours and product-quality acceptance. A lower evaporation duty is not an energy advantage if it produces a different concentrate. Keep feed heating and final cooling inside or outside both cases consistently.
Allocate the temperature budget
For each effect, record proposed pressure, boiling temperature, boiling-point elevation and usable temperature difference. Include the final-concentrate viscosity and the cooling-water condition that the vacuum system must tolerate. Extra effects cannot be assumed to fit an unchanged thermal budget.
Compare the operating day
Request start-up heat, normal and minimum-load utility rates, cleaning downtime and the basis of the guarantee. List area, footprint, access and control scope beside utility demand. The quote should separate measured evidence from a preliminary heat balance.
