Feed preheater for falling-film evaporation
Bring feed toward its agreed evaporation entry condition.
UPSTREAM / CONDITIONING
A cold feed uses part of the available heat input before evaporation begins. The preheater duty therefore belongs in the energy balance. Heat recovery can reduce external demand, but its usefulness depends on temperatures and operating schedules.

| Input | Output | Installation interfaces |
|---|---|---|
| Feed with measured temperature and composition | Conditioned feed at the evaporator inlet | Balance vessel, feed pump, heat-recovery stream and bypass or divert arrangement |
Specify the engineering conditions
| Review item | Required basis |
|---|---|
| Heat source | Identify condensate, recovered vapour or live utility and its available temperature. |
| Exposure | Include preheating time in the total thermal history. |
| Cleanability | Specify inspection and cleaning access for the chosen exchanger. |
Operation & maintenance
Monitor feed outlet temperature and pressure. Address unstable feed temperature before tuning the evaporation section around it. Where microbial or enzyme treatment is needed, define and validate that separate duty.
Selection limit
Preheating is not automatically a validated pasteurisation step. Product safety claims require their own time, temperature and control evidence.
